Silver Lining

Ok, the hurricane disaster is horrendous. Yes. But I've been glued to the news coverage over the last few days, and have seen some things that I just have to comment on. If there's any way to smile throughout this disaster, these things have made me smile.

- A few days ago, a headline on Chicago Tribune.com read "Britney Spears is praying for New Orleans." And as we all know, God answers Britney's prayers. How else can a no-talent skank become a multi-millionaire? Thank you, Britney, for praying for the victims.

- I saw a guy interviewed on MSNBC this morning who was offering to provide security services to rescuers so they could reach the Convention Center. This man's name was Dwayne Thomas. He was of average build, had multiple diamond earrings, and a set of poorly-fitting dentures. He maintained-- on National television-- that his mere voice commands trust among the survivors. He said he would ride with the rescuers, requiring only a bullhorn in order to broadcast messages of peace to the thugs. He said this with a straight face. I love the idea of Dwayne Thomas riding along with a flatbed truck full of armed National Guard troops, providing "security" to the City of New Orleans.
