Ode to the Crab

1-16-2004 - 8:21 p.m.

I've been getting a lot of flack lately from friends for being a close kin to a hermit crab. You know, not really liking to leave the home that it's worked so hard to create. Getting agitated and pinching all those who dare to pry me out of my safe, warm shell.

Yeah, I guess I am like that crab. But is that so wrong? Is it wrong that I choose to spend my leisure time doing absolutely, postively nothing? I work hard, am I not entitled to a little 'E! Celebrity Oops' viewing sometimes? Hey, I respect people who find the time and motivation to accomplish all sorts of interesting things in the few hours they're not working. But, I am proud to not be one of them. And when do I ever get congratulated on my ability to sleep 13 hours a night? (Ok, it doesn't happen as often as I'd like it to... but I've been known to really "get my sleep on" every now and then).

Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is that maybe, just maybe, I like to putz around my apartment in my leisure time, like Hugh Hefner wearing pajamas all day and night-- listening to a little Dolly Parton if I feel like it-- surfing Ebay-- and loving every minute that I get before 5:30 Monday morning, when it's back to doing "stuff".

If self-imposed hermitage is wrong, I don't want to be right.
